81 Things To Do With Your Kids This Summer

Summer vacation starts this week and our kids have let us know that there are exactly 81 days of summer vacation for students in the Iowa City area. That means there are 81 chances to make memories, lay in the grass, and venture out into this wonderful community we call home. Let’s make the most of it!

We’ve compiled a list of some of the best things to do in Iowa this summer to share with you. From revisiting tried-and-true favorites and exploring hidden gems to creative play at home, we have so many ideas for your summer that are guaranteed to be memorable for parents and kids alike—and best of all, many are also absolutely free!

Has your family visited the Iowa Raptor Center near Lake Macbride in Solon? You can take a self-guided tour of their birds of prey (including eagles, vultures, hawks, owls and falcons), attend one of their educational programs, or, for just $3.00 per person, opt for a one-hour guided tour.

Feeling entrepreneurial? Get a “small business loan” through Hills Bank’s Lemon Boss program and launch your own lemonade stand. They’ll get you set up with everything you need—from lemonade mix to hand sanitizer—and after your successful launch you’ll receive a Certificate of Completion and join the ranks in the Lemon Boss Hall of Fame.

And for the lazy days of summer, we have lots of ideas for creative play and things to do at home too! Make slime, build epic blanket forts, create paintings in the style of your favorite famous artist and host an art show, or checkout fun-shaped cake pans from the Coralville Library and bake something for someone special.

These are just a few recommendations from the 81 fun and exciting family-friendly activities we’ve compiled for you. Click here to download the complete list—for FREE!—to print and take with you on the road.

Enjoy your summer! If you feel inclined, snap a photo and tag us on Facebook or Instagram. We’d love to see what sort of magic is stirred up this season.
